Why is there a dress code?

Appearance in this industry is important because it not only communicates a student’s dedication but also their level of professionalism. What is the dress code for cosmetology students?
Student apparel is all black clothing. A name badge is provided and is always to be worn.
Once a student achieves a certain level, they can incorporate more colors in their outfits:
Level 1: All Black
Level 2: Black + White
Level 3: Black + White + Gray
Level 4: Black + White + Gray + Pop of Color
Shoes must be closed toe, black, clean, polished with no scuffs and black shoestrings if applicable. No flip-flops or tennis (athletic) shoes allowed.
Black tops must meet or overlap the waistline, be in good condition, clean, wrinkle free, no cleavage, no exposed bra straps. Black bottoms must be in good condition, clean and wrinkle free. Skirts length must cover half the thigh and not too tight. You should be able to pull material away from the skin. No denim. Hose or tights must be black, gray or neutral in color. No runs or snags. Socks must be black. Repair lost buttons, torn seams and hems immediately. No shorts.
Makeup is required daily for female students and must be applied prior to entering The Academy. Nails must always be clean and manicured. Hair must be clean, dry and finished in a style. No ball caps. Hair accessories and decorative hats are acceptable but must be black.
